Memphis accepts invite to Big East

The Big East has acquired all the pieces needed to build a new coast-to-coast conference. Putting them all together, though, is going to take a while. The conference wanted to rebuild itself into a 12-team football league that can hold a championship game, and Memphis officially became that 12th member on Wednesday when it accepted an invite it has long coveted.
Slive: BCS changes couple years away

Mike Slive helped propose the plus-one plan to find a national champion in football and says actual change remains a couple years away even if everyone can agree on changes to the Bowl Championship Series. The Southeastern Conference commissioner said Wednesday a decision could be made later this year but cautioned it's premature to speculate on what changes might be made.

A&M drops game, adds 2 to 2012 schedule

Texas A&M has revamped its 2012 football schedule, dropping McNeese State and adding Louisiana Tech and South Carolina State. The Aggies, moving from the Big 12 to the Southeastern Conference for next season, still need one more game. Athletic director Bill Byrne says their options for scheduling were limited because of the move, but that they expect to have a game for Nov.

Washington St. LB Mizell kicked off team

Washington State starting linebacker C.J. Mizell has been kicked off the team after he was arrested this weekend in connection with a fight at a fraternity house. Coach Mike Leach said Tuesday that Mizell was no longer on the team because of a violation of team policy. Pullman police say Mizell was arrested Sunday on misdemeanor charges of assault and trespassing.
UNLV coach Hauck picks new coordinators

UNLV announced that coach Bobby Hauck has shuffled his staff, moving tight ends coach Brent Myers to offensive coordinator and defensive backs coach J.D. Williams to defensive coordinator. The moves were announced Tuesday. Rob Phenicie, who was offensive coordinator during Hauck's first two seasons, will continue to be quarterbacks coach.
