Alan Jackson Information
Born in Newnan, Georgia, Alan Jackson was the son of a motor mechanic. Alan had a love of gospel music as a small child and sang gospel music in church and at home. As a teen, he sang at parties and choirs in a country duo. At the age of 20, he gradually began to perform music professionally, first by sitting in with other musicians and then by starting his own band, Dixie Steel, with whom he played the local club circuit. Still, music was just a hobby for Alan. He wrote songs only in his spare time. Alan decided to sell his home and move to Nashville, with his wife Denise, to try and succeed as a country performer. His wife Denise, a flight attendant, played a major part in setting Alan on the road to stardom. Denise encountered Glen Campbell in an airport and asked the singer for some advice for husband. Campbell gave her the address and phone number of his publishing company. Alan was ready with his demo tape and some of his songs. Glen Campbell's company was impressed by Jackson's singing ability, but suggested he hone his songwriting a bit. The following year, he joined the staff of Glen Campbell Music.

When not writing, he performed in local clubs. To support himself and his family, Alan took various odd jobs. Through the '80s and '90s, Alan Jackson quietly worked to become one of the most popular modern honky tonkers of his era. He recorded a new demo tape with fellow songwriter Keith Stegall. The tape caught the attention of Arista Records, which was in the process of setting up a Nashville division, and Alan became the first artist on the label. He released his debut album, Here in the Real World, in 1990; a year later it went platinum. It produced three chart toppers including "I'd Love You All Over Again" and "Someday." 1991 was even better: his second album Don't Rock the Jukebox went double-platinum within its first year of release. That same year, he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

In 1995, Jackson released The Greatest Hits Collection, which went triple platinum within a year of its release. Everything I Love surfaced in 1996, followed two years later by High Mileage, which launched the hit "Little Man." He resurfaced in 1999 with Under the Influence. When Somebody Loves You was issued a year later.

Alan Jackson burst on the country charts in 1989, and proceeded to get better as a writer, singer and recording artist with each album release. Still, after five rapid-selling albums and a slew of hits, the distinct impression is made that he hasn't peaked yet. Alan is one of a few country artists who kept the twang in country music during the early '90s and just seems to get better with age by expanding his range. Alan Jackson's impact on country music over the past 16 years will go down in history.
